Notes

24238 lickskillet Road
Gotta love the southern names!

so I think today is the 23rd it’s a Thursday at 9:38 maybe not really sure 73 degrees heading to North heading from Mississippi to Louisiana and I’m on very nice peaceful Highway at 74 miles an hour

24294 only in the South grits and grinders get your coffee and grits here all right
I do love grits but it was just never convenient for me to stop off anywhere that was serving them. But, yeah, grits with a puddle of butter in the middle? Them’s good food.

24297 huge ginormous magnolia tree is fully in Blossom oh my
Pretty self-explanatory. Magnificent. Majestic. Just gorgeous.

24312 goodbye Mississippi hello Louisiana

24316 could swear a UFO two of them as a matter of fact just went by led by the police that had closed the entire road down so that they could fit these two UFOs on the back of a huge 18-wheeler as it heading into Bogalusa Miss

24343 I can’t believe I just left go free offerings of chicken crackling yeah I’m missing something out here but I was just going too fast so I went on past it
What the hell is chicken crackling? Like the feet or the beak or something. But, yeah, dang, I missed out on that delicacy.

24359 when the train rolls through Amity downtown everything stops

24410 crossing the river on the Hugh P long Bridge we are in Louisiana folks
Huey P long Bridge has a really cool railroad viaduct crossing the river. “The distinctive rail structure is 22,996 feet (7,009 m) long and extends as rail viaducts well into the city on both sides of the river from the central spans” (Wikipedia).

24444 we seem to have just passed over some swamp that just went on and on and on on an elevated Highway couldn’t see what was down there but it was kind of spooky

24459 weird Small Ponds with red lights and white bulbs every 10 yards in Grid format very strange

24464 they say you can tell US states by the quality of its roads which really explains why Louisiana is probably 49 maybe 50 out of all the states these roads are horrible

24481 I get it that this place floods cuz every single house is on cinder blocks or pylons of some sort but only like 2 ft off the ground and I’m trying to figure out from whence comes the Flood cuz there’s no there’s no appreciable water anywhere nearby

24496 okay so 3 1/2 acres for $65,000 with Bayou access. Okay so I would not consider bayou access or on a bayou as a plus/bonus because isn’t that where the crocodiles live? Just asking not too sure.

24511 beautiful short little section on Route 87 with old old old old trees and lots of Spanish moss and just picturing the horse and buggy going down the lane back in the day on a hot sunny day in the nice shade put out by these trees

24526 just passed the high school and they have pictures of all the seniors on the fence around the high school and this is talk about a reverse diversity there was maybe one white face and all the others very elegantly dressed in their tuxedos were all black

24528 Main Street St Mary I guess and all the gorgeous old trees with the Spanish moss hanging down and all the old plantation style and houses with a center median with white lamp posts oh my look at that Arlington mansion
It was actually Franklin, LA

24530 Antebellum that’s the word I was looking for not Plantation style Antebellum
There were several towns that had renovated mansions along prominent avenues that, combined with the moss-laden trees, really brought back the feel of the old south.

24533 nothing like an RV Park right next to Neptune gas plant that’s exactly where I plan on putting my feet up for an evening of relaxation
Thankfully, Mr Google Maps was completely wrong in regard to where my final destination was supposed to be (Cypremort Point State Park) and dropped me off at this decrepit old campground. The owner came out of his house in his wife-beater, grungy old t-shirt after me banging on the door. He looked over his domain and said, “Why don’t you park over there?” I asked him if that was the site that I had reserved to which he replied that he didn’t take reservations. That’s when I realized I was at the wrong campground. When I asked him if he was the Cypremort Point State Park, he said that the Cypremort Point State Park was across the bay and pointed waaaay over the water to a small jut of land that was just barely visible. I am so glad that his little slice of heaven was NOT where I was to lay my head that night cuz, hello, the refinery right next door.

24538 I think I just crossed over the Mississippi there were many barges on it of course right next to it is a huge Refinery of some sort and we are in Bayou Salé
Surprisingly there was no sign whatsoever that I was crossing the Big Muddy. One would think that crossing the Mississippi would be worthy of some form of signage. But no.
Also, I hate refineries. But, of course, without them, Betty and I wouldn’t have been able to get very far out of Hayes Camp Rd.

24582 I would say that was about a 6 or 7 ft crocodile roadkill Belly Up Lying by the road
I think this is fairly self-explanatory so I’m just gonna leave this here. And, no, I did not stop to take a picture.
